On This Day 28 Years Ago , Bobby Sands Died After 66 Days On Hunger Strike In Long Kesh Prison Fighting For The Future Irish Generations.

He Was Born Into A Catholic Family In Newtonabbey , County Antrim. When He Left School , He Became An Apprentice Builder Until He Was Forced Out At Gunpoint By Protestants. At The Age Of 18 He Left Newtonabbey Due To Protestants Threatening His Family And Moved To West Belfast. He Married A Woman named Geraldine And Had A Son Named Gerald. She Soon Left Ireland However To Protect Their Son , Whilst Bobby Stayed In Ireland As A member Of Thee IRA.

In 1973 He Was Sentenced To 5 Years In prison For Possession Of Firearms. In 1977 He Was Sentenced To 14 Further Years In Prison Due To Possession Of Firearms Again In Long Kesh.

The Hunger Strike Centered Around 5 Demands

1. The Right To Not Wear A Uniform.

2. The Right To Not Do Prison Work.

3. The Right Of Free Association With Other Prisoners And To organise Educational And Recreational Pursuits.

4. The Right To One Visit , Oen Letter And One Parcel A Week.

5. Full Restoration of Remission During The Protest.

He Died Aged 27 After 66 Days On Hunger Strike. More Than 100,000 People Lined The Streets At His Funeral. Margaret Thatchers [Murderer]Response Was : Mr. Sands was a convicted criminal. He chose to take his own life. It was a choice that his organisation did not allow to many of its victims".
